(Street addresses are 410 Warren or 5045 Cass.) Refreshments will be available in the lobby of Science Hall before and between talks. A party will be held Saturday evening. Accomodations: a number of rooms will be reserved at the St. Regis hotel, which is within a short walk (1/2 mile) of the campus, at the 'corporate rate' of $69 single, $79 double. This is the closest good hotel. It is immediately across the street from General Motors headquarters, and also close to the Fisher Building, an Albert Kahn building built in 1929. It is also one block north and one block west of the AMTRAK station. The St. Regis requests that reservations be made by 9/20 in order to be certain of getting one of the rooms reserved for the meeting. After this, the rooms may be taken by others, but the special rate still applies if rooms are available. You should identify yourself as attending the Midwest/Ontario Topology Seminar at Wayne State when contacting them. The phone number for reservations at St. Regis is 1-800-848-4810. Rooms will also be available at the Omni hotel downtown (a 5 minute drive from the University) for $79 single or double. When you call to make reservations, tell them to give you the rate of $79 for WSU - Math Dept. The phone number for reservations is 1-313-222-7711. The Omni provides free transportation to WSU. Simply ask for it when you arrive and make arrangements with the hotel. Those who can easily cross the border between the U.S. and Canada may wish to stay in Windsor, as the exchange rate makes the price quite competitive. Transportation: Two airports serve Detroit. Metro airport is halfway between Detroit and Ann Arbor and handles the vast majority of the traffic. City airport, which is inside Detroit, is served by very few carriers at present. From Metro airport, a cab to Detroit costs about $30-$35. There is an airport limousine service named Commuter Transportation (313-941-3252) which charges $12 from Metro to the St. Regis or Omni, and which leaves the airport each hour on the hour. By car, Wayne State is located near the intersection of US-10 (the Lodge freeway) and I-94, just west of the intersection of I-75 and I-94. From I-94, heading east, take the Trumbull exit, turn right onto Trumbull, go to the light at Warren, and turn left onto Warren. The talks are in Science Hall, which is the 5-th stop light you will come to after turning onto Warren. From US-10, take the Forest/Warren exit, go north to Warren, and turn right onto Warren. Cass will be the second stoplight after that. From I-75, take the Warren exit and head west. Cass is one block west of Woodward. From the Ambassador bridge, take I-96 to I-94, go east (toward Port Huron rather than Chicago) on I-94 and follow the I-94 directions. You will only be on I-94 for a short while. Parking: Some street parking is available. There is a lot which charges $2 in advance on the northeast corner of Waren and Cass. Enter from the north, so you should go a block north of Warren on Cass, and turn right onto Putnam. There are substantial parking structures just north of Warren, 2 blocks west of Cass. They charge $1, payable upon exit by means of a card you purchase from a vending machine in the parking structure. You should enter at an entrance identified as Student/Guest, else you will have difficulty getting in. Questions can be directed to Bob Bruner (rrb@math.wayne.edu) or Chuck McGibbon (cam@math.wayne.edu).
